Rope access - introduction course

Name of the course:  introductory course about work at heights methods based on the recommendations of IRATA international.

Course duration: 1 day/8 hours – 2,5 hours of theory + 5,5 hours of practical exercise

This course is designated for the all who want to get a general knowledge about rope access methods of work at height, as well as about general safety principles and methods for the all sorts of work at height including work at height in industry, construction (civil and industrial), cleaning, shipbuilding and repairs, wind energy and other areas.

Syllabus: to provide information about requirements for the rope access technicians and other people performing work at height. Provide the knowledge about methods of work at height and related safety measures, based on the local legislative acts and IRATA code of practice. Give basic knowledge about various PPE. Familiarize students with possible risks related to the work on height. Give the students the opportunity to experience of staying in full suspended position, to perform some basic rope access maneuvers , and practical understanding of double protection.

Goal: to give the students understanding of basic principles of rope access and mark possible handicaps thus cutting down unnecessary money and time waste.

Theoretical part: history of rope access; possible methods of work at heights; basic principles of of safe work via rope access methods; various PPE – harnesses, helmets, backup devises, positioning devices, ascenders, ropes, connectors; functioning and purpose of positioning, backup and ascending devices.

Practical part: practical demonstration of the rope access activity; practice of ascening, descending, passing the knots, rope-to-rope transfer; practical demonstration of rescue with the optional possibility to participate as a casualty.

Course outcome: course attendants will have general knowledge about legislative, practical ant task-specific requirements for the rope access technicians, about commonly used equipment and its functioning, basic knots, maneuvers and safety aspects for positioning and working while using the rope access methods.

Thus course attendant will be able to make informed decision about career in rope access and his fitness according to the standard requirements.
